Is this rate good? Rival IQ 2025 Social Media Industry Benchmark Report (2025) publishes one median per platform, engagements divided by followers. It does not publish a separate average, a low quartile, a high cutoff, or a band by follower tier. Sample: brands with at least 5,000 Instagram followers. Report PDF.

Instagram follower engagement bands from Rival IQ 2025 Social Media Industry Benchmark Report
BandRateWhat the report supports
LowUnder 0.36%Below the published median. A lower quartile was not published.
Median0.36%The middle of that sample. The report does not publish a separate average.
HighAbove 0.36%Higher than half of that sample. A single top-tier cutoff was not published.

Rival IQ's Instagram article also mentions a top-25% median, but that page states it as 1.02% and as 1.05%, and one sentence calls 0.43% the median. Those numbers disagree, so they are not used as a high band.

Nothing is fetched. The percent uses only the numbers in these boxes.

Two formulas, and they are not the same number

By followers: add the actions, divide by followers, multiply by 100. By reach, views or impressions: divide by that number instead. A 2% follower rate and a 2% reach rate describe different posts. Do not compare them.

Instagram actions on this page are likes, comments, saves and shares. TikTok and YouTube use views as the second formula, because that is the number those apps show. LinkedIn and X use impressions. Facebook uses reach.

For "is this good?", the bands use Rival IQ's 2025 report: one follower median each for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X. Low means under that median, and high means above it, because the report does not publish a low quartile or a single high cutoff. LinkedIn and YouTube are not in that report, so they have no band. The medians are not split by follower tier. Nothing on this page looks up a username.

Questions people ask

What is considered a good engagement rate?

Above the median for your platform. Rival IQ's 2025 report puts the median, by followers, at 0.36% on Instagram, 1.73% on TikTok, 0.046% on Facebook and 0.015% on X, for brand accounts. Smaller accounts usually run higher. Compare a rate only with one built on the same formula.

Is a 4.2 engagement rate good on Instagram?

4.2% by followers is well above the 0.36% median in the Rival IQ 2025 Social Media Industry Benchmark Report, for brands with at least 5,000 Instagram followers. A small account often sits higher than that sample. If 4.2% came from reach instead of followers, do not compare it with 0.36%.

Is 0.5 engagement rate good?

0.5% by followers sits a little above the 0.36% median in that 2025 Rival IQ report. For the brands in that sample it is ordinary, not a prize and not a failure. A reach-based 0.5% is a different number, and this page has no cited range for it.

Is a 2.2% engagement rate good?

2.2% by followers is above the 0.36% median Rival IQ reported in 2025 for brands with at least 5,000 Instagram followers. Whether it is good for you depends on your follower count and which formula you used. This page does not fetch your profile.

Is 12% engagement on Instagram good?

12% by followers is far above the 0.36% median in Rival IQ's 2025 report for larger brand accounts. Very small accounts can show rates like that on a single post. If the 12% is from views or reach, this page does not cite a range for that formula.

How do you calculate engagement rate?

Add the actions, divide by followers or by reach or views, and multiply by 100. On the Instagram tab the actions are likes, comments, saves and shares. The two formulas are not interchangeable.

What's my IG engagement rate?

Type the numbers from your own insights. This page does not look up a username and does not fetch anything. Compare the result with the 0.36% median only when you used the follower formula.
