The studies behind this map

  • Sprout SocialPublished Mar 31, 2026 · data Nov 27, 2025 to Feb 27, 2026

Nearly 2 billion engagements on about 307,000 profiles (all networks). It counts when people engaged, not when the posts went out.

    “Mondays 2-4 p.m.; Tuesdays 1-7 p.m.; Wednesdays 12-9 p.m. and 11 p.m.; Thursdays 12-2 p.m.”

Local time. Sprout says a 9 a.m. peak "translates to 9 a.m. in Los Angeles, 9 a.m. in London and 9 a.m. in Sydney."

  • BufferPublished Sep 23, 2026 · data Jan 2024 to Dec 2025

9.6 million Instagram posts. The median engagement rate of posts published in each hour.

    “Mon 7, 6, 8 p.m.; Tue 7, 3, 5 p.m.; Wed 12 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 a.m.; Thu 9, 8, 7 a.m.; Fri 10 p.m., 9 p.m., 6 a.m.; Sat 9, 10, 8 p.m.; Sun 9, 10, 8 p.m.”

Local time. Buffer normalized every post to the local time of the account, so "12 p.m. Wednesday means 12 p.m. local time wherever you are."

  • HootsuitePublished Jul 14, 2026

Over 1 million social posts (all networks). Engagement by the hour a post went out, analyzed with the data agency Critical Truth.

“3-9 PM on Mondays, 5-8 AM and 3-7 PM on Tuesdays, 5 PM on Wednesdays, 4-5 PM on Thursdays, 4 PM on Fridays, 11 AM and 5 PM on Saturdays, and 12-3 PM on Sundays”

Local time. Hootsuite "localized across 118 countries where sample data came from."

  • LaterPublished Apr 21, 2026 · data Jan to Oct 2024

Over 6 million Instagram posts. Engagement rate by the hour a post was published.

“Mon 5 AM (and 11 PM); Tue 5 AM; Wed 3 AM, strong until 5 AM; Thu 4-5 AM; Fri 3-6 AM; Sat 5 AM; Sun 12 AM, 5 AM and 11 PM”

Local time. Later reports times in your audience's local time zone, from posts across time zones.

Note: The page was updated in 2026, but its data covers January to October 2024, the oldest window here.

Every slot was copied from the linked page and checked on Oct 9, 2026.

How the map is built

Each study publishes its best hours for each day. Every hour a study names adds one to that hour on the map, so a dark hour is one that several studies name, and a pale one is named by none. A range such as "1 to 5 PM" counts the hours that start inside it: 1, 2, 3 and 4 PM. Nothing is weighted or smoothed, and the exact wording of every study sits under the map, so you can check any hour yourself.

The top three slots are the darkest run of hours on the three strongest days. When two days tie, the one holding a study's own top-three hour wins, then the longer run.

The studies do not measure the same thing. Sprout Social counts when people engaged. Buffer, Hootsuite and Later look at the hour a post went out and how it did. Later's Instagram data is from 2024; the rest is from 2025 and 2026. Use the study buttons to see each one alone.

The studies agree less than their headlines suggest

On Instagram, 4 studies name 61 different hours of the week between them. No hour is named by all 4, and only one is named by 3. TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook and X look the same: no hour has all three studies behind it. A single "best time" is a summary of one dataset, not a law.

What does repeat: weekday late mornings to afternoons on LinkedIn and X, evenings on Instagram, and quiet weekends almost everywhere. Start there, then let your own numbers decide.

Your time zone or your audience's?

Your audience's. Every study reports local time: Sprout Social says a 9 AM peak means 9 AM in Los Angeles, London and Sydney alike, and Buffer, Hootsuite and Later normalize the same way. So if your followers are in New York and you are in London, the map's 12 PM is usually your 5 PM.

Set both zones above and switch to My clock. The conversion uses the real dates of the coming week, so a week where one country has changed its clocks and the other has not comes out right.

Check your own audience

Averages from millions of posts are a starting point. Your followers are the answer. Here is where each app shows them, as described in Buffer's guides:

  • Instagram: on a professional account, open Professional dashboard under your bio, then follower active times. On the web: Dashboard, Insights, Account, then Followers.
  • TikTok: open TikTok Studio from your profile, tap View all on Analytics, open the Followers tab and scroll to Most active times. It covers the past week.
  • YouTube:in YouTube Studio, open Analytics, then the Audience tab, and scroll to "When your viewers are on YouTube". It covers the last 28 days, in your local time.
  • LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Threads and Pinterest:we could not confirm a simple follower-hours chart in these apps. Keep a log of when each post goes out, then compare results after a month. LinkedIn's own analytics only show a post's age ("3h", "2d"), not the hour it went out.

Post a little before your followers' busiest hour, so the post is there when they arrive.

How Beevi's scheduler compares

Beevi's scheduler starts from three weekly slots for each of Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, read in your business's time zone, then fits them to the posting days and hours you set and to what is already booked. Other platforms start from a general weekday list. Here is how those starting slots line up with the studies above: 4 of 9 are named by at least one.

Your own posting hours and calendar always win over the starting slots, and you can move any suggested time.

Questions people ask

What is the best time to post on social media?

There is no single hour. Sprout Social's 2026 data says Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11 AM to 6 PM local time. Hootsuite's says 8 AM on Wednesdays. They measure different things (when people engage versus when a post went out), so pick your platform above and look for the hours more than one study names.

What time is best to post on Instagram?

The hour most studies agree on is Tuesday 3 PM, named by 3 of the 4 studies on this page. Buffer's top three are Thursday 9 AM, Wednesday 12 PM and Wednesday 6 PM. Later's data points to about 5 AM. No hour is named by all 4, so test two or three of the darker slots against your own insights.

What is the peak hour for TikTok?

The studies disagree. Buffer's single best slot is Sunday 9 AM, Sprout Social's busiest window is Tuesday to Friday, 2 to 6 PM, and Hootsuite's is Thursday morning plus Saturday midday. The hour with the most agreement is Sunday 9 AM. None of them measured views alone: they measured engagement.

What is the best time to post on LinkedIn?

Weekdays. Sprout Social says Tuesday to Thursday, 11 AM to 5 PM. Buffer says 3 to 8 PM on weekdays, with Wednesday 4 PM on top. Hootsuite's day list leans earlier, such as 6 to 8 AM on Tuesdays. Sprout Social and Hootsuite call weekends the weakest; Buffer finds Monday and Tuesday weakest.

Should I post in my time zone or my audience's?

Your audience's. Every study here reports local time: the clock where an account and, for most accounts, its followers live. If your followers are in New York and you are in London, a 12 PM slot is usually 5 PM on your clock. Set both zones above and the map and the top slots convert for you.

Is "best time to post" a myth?

Partly. On this page, no single hour is named by every study for any platform with more than two studies. Sprout Social and Buffer both say timing still matters because a post's first hours shape how far it travels, but your own audience beats any average. Use the map to pick a starting point, then keep what works in your insights.

What is the golden hour on Instagram?

It is a nickname for a post's first hour, when early likes and comments may help it reach more people. We could not find an official Instagram definition, and Buffer notes LinkedIn has not confirmed an official 60 or 90 minute window either. Being around to reply in that first hour is the practical part.

How do I find my own best time to post?

Open your audience insights: on Instagram, Professional dashboard then follower active times; on TikTok, TikTok Studio then Analytics then Followers; on YouTube, Studio Analytics then Audience then "When your viewers are on YouTube". LinkedIn does not show when past posts went out, so keep a log of your posting times and compare results. Post a little before your followers' busiest hour.

What are the worst times to post?

Late night and weekends come up most. Sprout Social calls weekends the weakest on every network it measured. Hootsuite flags midnight to 4 AM on Instagram and Facebook. Buffer finds Saturday weakest on Facebook and Friday and Saturday weakest on Instagram. Each platform tab lists its own quiet times.
